A 2-day hike up avalanche gulch to the summit of Mt. Shasta - and a ski descent from the summit plateau via the 'left of heart variation'. It was the typical itinerary - drive up from the Bay Area early on a saturday morning and camp at Lake Helen. An early start the next day to the summit - only to wait at the summit plateau for good ski conditions - before a rapid descent back.

Hoardes of skiiers ascend to Lake Helen
Your's truly on the summit plateau - standing tall against the wind gusts!

Descending towards the Red Banks
At the Red Banks - on the left of heart variation
This was a slow-ish descent after I saw a fellow skiier wipe-out and slide down a 1000+ feet towards Helen Lake with no hope of slowing down or stopping!
